Living Dreams

On the couch in the living room there Travis sat, thinking about his life.  What he wants to do with his life, his dreams, and what he wants to accomplish.  He wanted the usual, but of course wanted more—Travis was heavily involved with the family farm, but even more involved with his horses and following his dreams.

It was almost as he could see his life before his eyes.  He knew what he already wanted.  Determined he was, he wanted a good education and a degree from college, even more determined to become a someone in the Quarter Horse Industry, with and through his own sweat, riding abilities, failures, successes, and enthusiasm to succeed. He wanted to win the world, the congress, become a judge and a trainer—a great western pleasure trainer like Cleve Wells and Steve Heckaman.  Have at least two kids, a great wife that he could love dearly and forever as he only wanted to be married once.  A person that he could tell anything to and have no secrets and no lies, someone that has the same interests as he does or interests of her own, but at least is supportive of his habits and him supportive of hers.  Live in Texas or stay here in the Upper Peninsula.  Have his dream house; a huge house with an attached barn, an indoor arena, twenty or so stalls, and a viewing room of the arena from the living room.  Have a blonde-haired, blue-eyed daughter, riding around the arena at the All-American Quarter Horse congress, in her brightly colored chaps and shirt, with her tiny cowboy hat upon her head and her blonde curly hair flowing out.  Her winning the Small Fry Horsemanship amongst many other wins, but the Congress win being the most memorable of all as it was on the horse that Travis had trained himself and nobody had given her a chance till he got her.  He wanted to teach his children the right and the wrong, and raise his kids to treat people how they would want to be treated and not to be superficial, but to look at the whole person, inside and out.  Not wanting to be just the "seed" but wanting to be involved with his kids.

He knew it would take time and hard work to make it to the top like he had dreamed.  Often asking for critiques of the work he does and striving to be the best he can be.  Aiming for perfection and never giving up, trying harder and harder to reach for his dreams.  He said, he would never give up.  And never give up is what he will do.

When asked why he wanted to accomplish his dreams, Travis replied, “There are too many people that have dreams, but don’t follow them.  I am going to be one of the few that follows my dreams to completion.”  But nobody gave the hard-headed, determined, quiet guy the credit he deserved and just laughed at his dreams.  Not even his parents knew him.  They saw him as a child still, not wanting to let go.  Jaimi, his sister was a lot like him; she was determined to follow her own dreams also.

Jaimi was a lot like Travis in the way she knew what she wanted to do in her life and she’d do whatever it takes to make her dreams come true, which pushed Travis, even more to follow his dreams.

Keep dreaming, he would say. You’re the only one that can make your dream come true, if you don’t follow your dream, nobody will and you will be left in the same spot you started in.  Follow your dream and live it to the fullest.  Take risks and chances, that are involved with your dreams—you won’t regret it.

Steve Heckaman, once said “If you dream it you can achieve it.”
